How to be a Phoenix

How to be a Phoenix.

If I had to say it in one word, SURRENDER.

Like if you remember nothing else from the story of Phoenix, remember the word SURRENDER.

A Phoenix is not about the colors of the feathers or the impressive wingspan or the long life or even the rising from the ashes in triumphant resurrection.

We focus so much on the magical RISING but the story is about the burn.

There IS no resurrection without a dying.

Peacocks have beautiful feathers. Albatross have incredible wingspans. Chickens can regenerate the hair cells in their inner ear so that they never lose their hearing...which isn’t exactly resurrection but still.

Tell me, who voluntarily invites fire and then surrenders to it?

This is the lesson of the Phoenix.

This is what it does best.

It submits to the burning because it knows there is no other way through but THROUGH.

You have to burn if you want to evolve.

You HAVE to surrender to the unknown if you want to change.

You don’t get to control the narrative.

You don’t get to choose your particular brand of “doable flames.”

If you want to rise, you have to lay it all down.

You always always lose your life before you find it.

There is no other way.

So my question to you is: what’s your fire? And will you surrender to it?
